CCTV42 is based just outside London near Uxbridge. From here we sell a wide range of CCTV cameras, DVR recording units and all the accessories needed to make a complete CCTV system.
What sets us apart from the majority of CCTV suppliers is our passion to ensure the solutions we offer are effective. We got into CCTV as customers, we bought a security system, it didn't do what it said on the packet, we noticed everyone else in the market was making the same mistakes and so we put our money where our mouth is. Much of what we sell is manufactured specifically for us. This allows us to offer customers a cohesive range with no gaps. Our cameras cover every eventuality from a metre, (3 feet) to 50 metres (150 feet).
The purpose of our UA-cam channel is to share some our thoughts on what makes a good CCTV system, highlight some of our products and pass on technical hints and tips.
Thanks for watching and feel free to get in touch if you have any thoughts or ideas.

Are you buying CCTV for an industrial building, farm or commercial unit but confused with the choice
Have you got an industrial building or farm that needs CCTV but are struggling to understand which system is best? Do you spend thousands of pounds with a professional CCTV supplier and hope it does the job or do you try to save money and fit something from Arlo, Nest, Netamo, Swann, Hikvision etc.? Don't worry, there's a lot of conflicting information but CCTV isn't complicated as we explain.
Henry from CCTV42 an online CCTV retailer explains what to consider and which equipment works best. Commercial buildings, farms and other large spaces are very different to a home when it comes to CCTV. Find out the most common mistake people make and how to avoid it.
Effective CCTV provides reassurance and can help police in the event of an incident. You can access the cameras on your phone or computer easily from anywhere in the world but if you use the wrong cameras they won't provide enough detail.

Hi henry, im currently beginning a electronic security systems apprenticeship in Ireland. ive only just found your channel and will be watching your material, Could you reccomend any other online learning tools to understand the basics of the cables/equipment involved?
There's no particular channel I'm aware of. Just let google be your friend or search UA-cam. All the best. Henry
It says "no CGI effects were used". Does his rear end really look like that?
thank you so much
I am sorry but that it not ANPR. Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) is the act of capturing an image of a vehicle number plate and Optical Character Recognition - reading the number plate and turning it into a text string like "RY07 WOX" in your example. The camera needs an RS232 serial, USB or IP connection to output the number plate data. What you have its a optical camera that can 'see' number plates. The 'A' (Automatic) in ANPR means automatically reading and converting to text.
Hi there Mike. We ensure customers are fully aware of the functionality of our Automotive Number Plate Recording cameras. We have actually moved on a little since this video was made and are now on our third generation of camera. The camera is designed to let you record automotive number plates during the day or at night on a HD analogue CCTV system. It is also not affected by headlights at night. With conventional day night cameras the number plates tend to bleach out at night leaving a white rectangle an headlights tend to flare the camera causing you to lose number plates. It has proved a very cost effective way for people to capture reflective number plates on their CCTV systems.

Lan Cable Cat6 outdoor cca wire is this okay for cctv sir?
Hi there. I would not recommend using CCA or copper clad aluminum cable. Not only does it break easily when making connections but it doesn't perform as well as pure copper cable when it comes to this CCTV application.
IR range not actually explained
Maybe you should do an update to this as super live plus has advanced in updates..
Does the IR range you mentioned affect the viewing angle of the camera or in other words does 2Mpixel, 3.6mm, 20m IR camera have the same viewing angle as 2Mpixel, 3.6mm, 80m IR or not? Many thanks
The IR range is an entirely made up number which has not relation to the effective range of a camera. The range is dictated by the lens / angle of view. The smaller the number, the wider the angle of view and the shorter the range. So a 3.6mm lens will have an angle of view of around 75 degrees. Effective range maybe 3-4 metres ?
Thanks you saved me from getting deceived
Hi Henry Thanks. I need to know if there is any home made (DIY) option to replace a Moca Adapter. These Adapters are very expensive and I want to obtain same functionality by doing it myself. Thanks once again.
So true.good info
I thought 1080N or native was more than just frame size. Rather than interlaced or progressively scanned it pushes the entire image at once which, in my experience has eliminated motion blur, depending on the shutter's ability.
i have red and blue bullons. is it mind if i install them at any end of the wire. i mean red to dvr and blue to camera or blue to dvr and red to camera?
good
Can you please suggest a few camera brands that support cat5? Thanks
I have a built in mic camera with one bnc connector and one adapter socket. Should i connect the video balun/transmitter same way?
It depends on the distance between the camera and the DVR / power supply. You might get away with 2 pairs of wires for the 12 volt power, 1 pair of wires for the video baluns and one pair of wires for the audio connection.
How i connect 1cctv to 2dvr's 1dvr is install in shop and the other at home
With our DVR recorders you can set up each system in the normal way then use either our mobile App or computer programme to view feeds from multiple systems on the same screen at the same time. Not all DVRs will allow this.

Hi sir, how we connect three multiple DVR conneting from three difference City in one screen for live view, please sir reply on watsapp 03451198322 pakistan
Hi there If you use our current HD Hybrid DVRs shown here... www.cctv42.co.uk/shop/dvr-recorders/ ...you can then access them using a free CMS software program which we provide downloaded onto either your PC or MAC. This allows feeds from different DVRs to be shown on the same screen. There is also a mobile App to do the same as well.
We are in great trouble, we used separate CAT 6 cable for each camera and gave 2 pair to video and 2 pair for power using DC adaptor. We used passive video balun without power dc jack. Image is fine with no lines or interference but image has ghosting affect and double. What to do
Hi there. Without seeing the installation it is impossible to say what's causing your problem. I would start by checking the individual components on a short test length of cable. I would also use a single pair for video rather than doubling up, you need to triple up on the power to avoid voltage drop over longer distances. Check for outside sources of interference, look at the camera power supply, the cable used (is it pure copper solid uniform twisted pair), the connectors (many so called baluns are just connectors with no internal components), and so on.
So the closer a person gets to the CCTV camera the clearer they will become? Thanks for this tip.
Ok so yes your camera at 25m is much clearer because it’s a much longer focal length but the trade-off is field of view so unless the person you need to identify is within that narrow field of view you’re screwed. Most of the off the shelf systems are geared towards people monitoring the closer perimeter of their home which is typically between one and eight meters so these systems are perfectly suited to that requirement. Your systems are good but they are aimed at a more knowledgeable consumer with special requirements or at the commercial market imo. On top of that, they are considerably more costly and still require self installation. So the take away is, if I was going to buy something like that I’d probably just hire a professional installer to do a full survey and install it for me for little extra cost.
Then why not say on the box these cameras are only designed to cover short distances up a couple of metres (in standard definition) rather than advertising distances or 30 or 40 metres. The result is an entire industry convinced you can have wide angle AND high levels of detail capture. Although we only supply equipment and don't install we still offer surveys / advice online to make sure people buy the right cameras an install in the correct location. Only this week I was speaking to a farm that had been quoted for 2.8mm lenses following an on site survey. The shortest distances involved were around 12-15m, the longest 60m. This was filmed some time ago using standard definition equipment but our rule of thumb with HD1080P (a good balance between HD image quality and hard drive space preservation) is that you want to film a maximum 6m to 8m across the screen (ideally 6m) in order to allow identification of unknown people. The narrower the better. The single biggest mistake people make with CCTV is using wide angle cameras thinking they are covering large areas when in fact they are covering nowhere properly. Far better to target key areas and get great detail in each one. You only need a single high quality image to allow identification. With modern DIY CCTV kits like Arlo, Nest, Netamo, Ring etc the problem is even greater as they use ultra wide angle 120 degree lenses that spread pixels even wider even quicker rendering them useless at detail capture.
Hi. Can you explain how you can feed 4 cameras on one cable. How would you make a split into the cable to keep running only one cable or would you need to keep splitting the cable. How does this work for power however each camera will need one cable for each power?
Handling the video feed from 4 cameras down 1 piece of CAT5e cable works best when the cameras are close to each other making connections easier. You could theoretically cut into the cable along it's length to use one of the twisted pairs for a camera but it's harder. The cameras would need to be powered independently from the CAT5e cable, you couldn't use it to handle multiple video signals AND power the cameras.
Sir order po ako ng DVR at power supply na 12 volts para sa apat na pirasong camera magkano po?
What camera system is that which produces the better quality video?
The equipment is from CCTV42.co.uk The video was made some time ago now and the current equipment from CCTV42 gives much superior results but the principles remain the same.
I find your video very helpful, Is it possible to connect a analog camera to a NVR over cat5 cable
No, IP cameras and HD analog cameras are not compatible.
Hi there u I need some help wiring my cameras to my house could u contact me possibly because idk which adapters that stuff I need
How give power supply from cp plus power supply when i want to run 4 cameras for one cat 5 cable
You can't supply power to 4 cameras and send video back to the DVR using a single length of CAT5e. You would have to power the cameras locally then just use the CAT5e for video with 1 pair of wires to each camera.
You show one camera cable connected to 4 different baluns. Why would you need four signals coming from one camera? If I connect 8 cameras I would only need two wires from each cat5 cable to connect my cameras?
Hi there Dave. This would be a possible solution for up to 4 cameras powered locally (ie. not using the Cat5 cable) where you then want to send the video signals back to a DVR. If the Cat5 cable isn't also being used to provide power then you can send up to 4 video signals down a length of Cat5 cable with 1 pair of wires used for each camera.
Got it, thanks so much! I know this video was posted 10 years ago so I thank you for continuing to monitor your video and I appreciate your quick reply!
@@diydaveman Our pleasure :-)
If i use for two cameras, i am left with 2 pairs for power. You recommend cross splitting the pairs for power right, not one pair for minus and one fir plus?
Hi there. We wouldn't recommend running 2 cameras using 1 length of Cat5 cable if you are using that cable to power cameras. There is a danger of voltage drop if you only have 1 pair of wires for the 12 volt power, hence why we suggest using 3 pairs for the 12 volt power.
I have ip camera how can i connected to a BCN cable
IP cameras don't use BNC fittings they would use something like an RJ45 connector so this method wouldn't be applicable.
no help, no information. no point. thanks.
Sorry you failed to get the message on this one. It's one of the most important things to understand when buying CCTV cameras. In a nutshell the IR "range" should not be taken to mean the effective range of the camera. The optical range of the camera will tell you this but you will rarely see optical range mentioned. It doesn't even mean the night time range of the camera. IR range is just one of the many fluffy phrases used by people selling CCTV who don't really understand the basic principles.
@@cctv42 oh sorry. your point was that there's no point talking about it. yeah massive fail on my part there. i was looking for someone talking about frequency range. i'll look up scientists rather than salesmen. sorry the A.I tried to sell you to me. it's not your fault. bye.
How many lines should the camera have for a 960h DVR
As with most things CCTV related people lie and claim 960H cameras are 1000TVL. This isn't actually possible, TVL should be measured across the horizontal axis over a distance equal to the height to the vertical axis, not across the entire horizontal axis. Correctly measured 960H cameras would be the same TVL as an equivalent 4:3 aspect ratio camera. 960H has exactly the same resolution as D1, it's just 30% wider with the extra lines filling in that area. These days of course standard definition CCTV is largely a thing of the past no that HD has become established.
CCTV42 Thank you for your helpful answer. I would like to buy a camera for my 960h DVR. What type of camera should I be looking for? In other words should it be 800TVL, 700TVL 600TVL? Etc. It's all very confusing. Thanks again
@@GlitterPrincessHD I wouldn't get too concerned with the specifics of TVL, that isn't what's going to make or break your 960H camera. What's far more important is getting the right lens for your application. We would supply a camera that does 960H and also HD1080P so as and when you upgrade your DVR the camera could be used in HD 1080P mode which would provide a massive improvement in image quality. Feel free to give us a call on 01895 233311 to discus your requirements.
CCTV42 Thanks again. I will be sure to give you a call. Speak soon.

Hello sir...I have this type dvr...bute....two dvr display in screen ...plz help me....how can it work
Hi there. You would need to contact the people who supplied your DVR, they will be able to provide operating instructions. The other alternative is to search online using a search engine such as Google. This is a legacy product sold by us a number of years ago but it wasn't a Bute DVR.
Was not exactly the best way of explaining the fact that the more data you have to process with the same capacity of computing power, through the same size of sensor, the worst the picture will be.
Theres a lot of work to be done if you want to upgrade to an I.P. system. Plus, if you you all the remaining pairs for power, you run the risk of ghosting the picture through interference.
This method of wiring is suggested for HD Analogue systems not IP systems. IP CCTV has it's place but we aren't massive fans for reasons outlined here: www.cctv42.co.uk/help-advice/buying-guides/buy-the-best-hd-cctv-cameras-and-system/ip-or-analog-hd-cctv/
thanks a lot man , you just solved my problem

hello there... good explanation, however not sure why you would need to tie the last six cores into two sets of three to prevent voltage drop? when a single pair can provide 48v @30watt - we see this on standard network topologies when running POE devices ie Cameras, IP phones, Wireless access points etc.. perhaps i misunderstood what you were saying
These are not IP cameras, in this example we are using CAT5e cable purely for the copper content. The cameras are 12 volt which will increase the chance of voltage drop but with any wiring using thin wires and lower voltages voltage drop is an issue as cable runs increase in distance so trebling up acts as insurance policy.
@@cctv42 thank you for the response, I appreciate the example you have used are not IP cameras I guess my reason for the comment wsd purely the fact that poe devices run 48v on cat5e and cat6 onwards cables albeit with them being thin cores..
@@rizwanmahmood1407 these are not PoE cameras in the strictest sense of the meaning. Because they work at 12 volts there is more chance of voltage drop compared to 48 volt devices. It's why the large power cables you see across the country run at 400,000 volts. CCTV applications are unique in that long cable runs can sometimes be required, certainly longer than might be experienced in a home or office set up and you won't have localised power injectors as you might in a network.
Thank you so much! After this video I finally understood how to do this.
What is the maximum meters using cat 6?
Using 3 pairs for 12 volt power and 1 pair for video signal we suggest 50m for power and video, 100m for video only (in which case you could handle the signal from 4 cameras on a single length of CAT5e / CAT6 cable. Some balun manufacturers suggest a further distance than 100m but we advise 100m to be safe.
Useful video!!! but i need to ask somthing more: the distance of my cameras will be from 40 to 50 m is the cat 5 useful? do i need balluns? and is there cat 5 with 8 pairs of cables for 2 cameras useing only one cable/ thanks in Advance!!!
At 40-50m we would suggest powering the cameras locally to avoid voltage drop. CAT5e comes with 4 pairs of wire, you would need to run a second cable. If you are powering the cameras locally (ie. not using the CAT5e cable to supply power) then as you only need 1 pair of wires for the video feed up to 4 cameras can be handled by a single length of cable.
What no comments!! Lol
Thanks for the demonstration and clear explanation.
